Giving Tuesday

img_4174

Sugar & Saige has a new tradition as of last year; supporting “Giving Tuesday”. It’s the time year where a lot of focus is on consumerism. Black Friday, Cyber Monday, all the christmas shopping… it’s super fun, but I want to pull focus back to the meaning of these holidays; thankfulness, togetherness and giving back!

I’ve rounded up some of my favorite charities and checked all of them through Charity Navigator, a website that rates charities based on things like how much of a donation actually goes to the cause. It’s definitely worth checking it out and typing in your favorite charity to see how it performs. I know everyone has different causes that are special to them so I tried to include a little bit of everything! Saige helped me choose which you’ll be able to tell from the very first one …

Cheetah Conservation Fund

Cheetahs are Africa’s most endangered big cat. There are only 7,500 cheetahs left in the wild! Through the Cheetah Conservation Fund, you can donate, sponsor a cheetah, or even volunteer at their location in Namibia in South Africa {Saige says sign her up!}

Dress For Success

The mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. They have served more than 1,200,000 women! Check their website to find out where you can make a donation of gently used clothing and shoes or make a monetary donation.

BONUS: I’m partnering with Zenzii Jewelry to give back to Dress For Success. From December 3rd – December 13th you can purchase any item using my code {GRETCHEN25} and Zenzii will donate the same item to Dress For Success San Antonio! This is an amazing opportunity to gift a woman who isn’t as fortunate as yourself this holiday season!

Coral Reef Alliance

Coral reefs are disappearing crazy fast and Coral Reef Alliance is working to combat this by facilitating coral adaption to a changing climate, promoting clean water for reefs, working with governments and communities to create healthy fisheries, and conserving and restoring coral reef habitats. You can set up a one-time, monthly, or yearly donation and even volunteer!

RAICES

RAICES is a non-profit based in our own city, San Antonio, TX. They provide free and low-cost legal aid to those seeking asylum in the US. You can even donate directly to specific needs such as “unaccompanied minors”.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation

This organization gives back in so many ways; both to the veterans and their families. I think it’s so important to give back to those who have played a part in giving us our freedom.

The Pet Education Project

This is a really fun organization that goes into San Antonio schools to teach children about caring for their pets! Check out their website to book them and learn more. Here is their mission statement: PEP! The Pet Education Project is an education and outreach program that teaches the core responsibilities of pet ownership. We strive to foster humane habits in youth and citizens of our community in order to reduce pet overpopulation, abuse, neglect, and euthanasia.

The Purple Door

This is another Texas-based charity servicing South Texas. The Purple Door provides safe shelter, support and empowerment to victims, and their children, of sexual assault and domestic violence.
