DIY Tassel Earrings

I have been seeing tassel earrings everywhere lately! I think they are so fun and pretty and statement making! I thought they might be fairly easy to make and it turns out…they are!! (Like 10 minutes easy!!) The supplies were inexpensive and easy to find too (mind you, I live in Hawaii where there are zero big name craft stores so there should be loads of options if you go somewhere like Michael’s or Jo-Ann’s.)They are so lightweight, which I love!Supplies needed:

  • Embroidery thread or nylon thread (disclaimer, I have not experimented with the nylon thread yet!)
  • Elastic cord
  • Very sharp scissors
  • Earring hooks (I recycled mine off of an old pair of earrings!)

Optional: cup of tea or other crafting beverage of choice! ☺️Start with your embroidery thread (I chose this pretty Tiffany blue to go with all my Lilly!) Cut a short piece and tie it in the middle. Make sure it is very tight and double knotted. Fold the embroidery thread in half then cut about 2-2 1/2 inches of your elastic cord (I LOVE this metallic gold.)Wrap it around the top of your tassel and double knot it securely at the back of the earring. Trim any loose ends as closely as possible.

Trim the top thread, loop the earring hook through, and trim the ends of the tassels (make sure you are using very sharp scissors or you will get frayed ends)

I love these SO much, I plan on making them in a zillion colors!! I hope ya’ll have fun with it and I can’t wait to see what kind of variations you come up with! Tag me on instagram ( @gretchen_altman ) and use #sugarandsaige so I can see your pretties too!
